From Insight to Impact: Meghan Lannom's Role as NeoCon Juror

I had the honor of being one of the Judges for the Best of NeoCon this year.  It was a great opportunity to see the products beforehand and give them an award based on different categories, for example innovation and sustainability.  The products could also earn a gold or silver award based on different criteria that were met. We were broken up into small teams, and I was a part of Team “H” for healthcare.  Most of the products we reviewed were more geared towards healthcare furniture and finishes.

Some takeaways that I got from the whole experience were the importance of networking with people from all around the country, learning about new products that I had never seen before, and personal inspiration for future projects.

One of the lessons that I learned from visiting NeoCon is that you can’t see everything you want to see in the short amount of time being there.  There are so many inspiring companies with amazing products to review, but unfortunately it just comes down to having to prioritize your visit.  It makes a good incentive to go back to Neocon and see the products you have not seen in the previous years.

Now that I have been a juror I will approach some design selections through the understanding of the story behind each product.  One of the opportunities in reviewing the products as a juror is that we were able to hear the design process in creating some of these products from some of the product designer’s  and leaders themselves. It gives you a whole another insight into the product as a whole.

I had an incredible time being one of the jurors The Best of NeoCon and look forward to being a juror again hopefully in the future.
