Greg Houston Retires After 41 Years with Marmon Mok

Marmon Mok celebrates the accomplishments of Greg’s long career in architecture and achievements in the design of award-winning projects focused on recreation, sports, and aquatics. Greg’s energy, creativity, and enthusiasm will be missed, but he leaves a talented and dedicated team who will carry on this work.

Greg joined Marmon Mok in 1982, and for the next 41 years, he collaborated on many of the firm’s most significant projects. His contributions positively transformed our practice and were reflected by his promotion to Associate Partner in 1994 and Partner in 2000. A proud and loyal alumnus of Texas A&M University, Greg actively supports the Chancellor’s Century Council and other community organizations, including San Antonio Youth Literacy and the San Antonio Sports Foundation. We congratulate Greg on his many successes and wish him a happy retirement. We are excited about the future as we continue to build on the firm’s legacy.

CODA Healthcare Merit Award - UH Women’s and Children’s Nest

Crafted with precision by artist Michael Szivos of SoftLab, the CODA Healthcare Merit Award is well-deserved for “Nest,” a hanging artwork commissioned as the key piece for the Women’s and Children’s Hospital at University Health. The artwork’s design supports the mission of University Health’s Salud-Arte: Art of Healing program, which aims to inspire healing, hope, and trust. The sculpture is made of thin shell laser-cut aluminum pieces, which were assembled in a woven pattern similar to a bird’s nest. The artwork’s inspiration comes from the way birds build nests, lay eggs, and nurture their young.

“Nest” is one of over 5,000 art objects integrated throughout University Health’s campuses and clinics, and it will be the focal point of our new main campus entrance.

Emily Rivera Earns ACHA Board Certification

Congratulations goes out to Emily Rivera, who recently added the American College of Healthcare Architects Board Certification to her resume.

ACHA provides board certification to architects who specialize in health care within the United States and in countries where NCARB reciprocal licensure can be obtained. The certification process is rigorous and overseen by an independent testing agency, in order to establish a professionally sound, legally defensible standard by which people can identify themselves as healthcare architects.

Take a look at her recent thought leadership article on The Value of Full-Scale Mockups during the design process.
