The Alamodome is a multi-purpose facility that is designed for a variety of convention, sports, and entertainment events. More than 40 different event types can be accommodated by the building’s flexible layout and unique movable seating system. The retractable seating system provides a 160,000 SF convention exhibit floor area and converts to an arena configuration of 30,000 seats and a theater configuration of 5,000 – 7,000 seats. In 2013, the Alamodome became the home stadium for the University of Texas San Antonio’s new NCAA football program.
Since the original construction, Marmon Mok has completed more than 60 renovations and miscellaneous projects at the Alamodome, and for major improvements, has included Populous for their specialized stadium and public assembly expertise. These projects include the UTSA Locker Room Renovations, a first-class NCAA Division 1 football locker room; the Illusions Theater, a temporary multi-purpose venue to accommodate smaller events within the Alamodome; the Club Level Suites renovation; and most recently, the renovation/expansion for the 2018 Men’s NCAA Final Four. For the 2018 Final Four, the design/build team of Turner + Marmon Mok + Populous widened the plaza level concourse on the east and west sides, completed a 50,000 SF concession expansion and renovation, added a 24,000 SF press facility addition, updated locker rooms, and enhanced the technology and scoreboard systems of the facility.
