Bonham Academy was originally built in 1889 and is situated in the King William Historic District. Marmon Mok expanded the school’s capacity to accommodate a 660 student population. The character of the new building borrows details from and respects the design of the 1915 buildings to create a cohesive whole. Window size and spacing were matched to complement the original buildings. To pay homage to the historic, colorful, and festive culture of the city; to be a beacon for the community; and to accent the art component of the school’s charter, a bright metal “curtain” composed of the neighborhood colors envelops the Black Box Theater.
