144,000 SF New Office Building & Central Utility Plant
110,000 SF Office Building Renovation
The Camp Hubbard Campus in central Austin, Texas, is undergoing a major transformation, with Marmon Mok leading the charge in reimagining this pivotal space. Owned by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) since 1963, the 15-acre campus has been shared by TxDOT and the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) since 2009. Following a recent legislative enactment, the north 11 acres of the campus, which includes seven buildings, were transferred to TxDMV. Marmon Mok is responsible for the programming, master planning, and design work that will modernize the campus to meet the current and future needs of TxDMV.
The approved master plan involves a comprehensive five-phase approach, balancing the demolition of outdated structures with the construction of new, state-of-the-art facilities. Here’s what the redevelopment entails:
Demolition and Construction: Four existing buildings will be demolished to make way for a new 144,000 SF office building. This new structure, designed with a three-story “z” shape configuration and a one-story warehouse, will house 11 of the 14 TxDMV Divisions.
Innovative Office Design: The new office building design encompasses flexibility and collaboration. The first floor includes large employee and public amenity spaces, such as dining facilities, wellness/fitness facilities, a large board hearing room, and public lobby services. The second and third floors feature large open office spaces in the northeast and southwest legs of the “z,” providing an environment conducive to collaborative and hybrid work.
Renovation of Existing Structures: The existing 5-story, 110,000 SF Camp Hubbard 6 (CH6) building renovations will accommodate the remaining 3 TxDMV Divisions, totaling 289 employees and contractors. Additionally, this building will serve as a swing space during the demolition and construction phases.
Seamless Connectivity: To ensure a smooth transition between the existing and new structures, a covered walkway will connect the main entrances of the CH6 building and the new office building.
With this comprehensive approach, Marmon Mok is dedicated to creating a campus that is not only functional but also conducive to a vibrant workplace culture. The transformation will provide TxDMV with a modernized campus that can adapt to evolving workspace needs, fostering a collaborative and efficient environment for employees and visitors alike.
We look forward to sharing more updates as we progress through the five-phase redevelopment of the TxDMV Camp Hubbard Renewal, paving the way for a bright and sustainable future for TxDMV.
