To create a state-of-the-art women’s and children’s hospital that becomes the anchor for a culture of outstanding, comprehensive care in the South Texas region, University Health embarked on a new 14-story 698,000 sf Hospital in the South Texas Medical Center. The women’s and children’s hospital will house close to 300 beds and contain a dedicated pediatric emergency department, private NICU and pediatric rooms, and a women’s urgent care center. Included in the project is a new 900-car patient/visitor garage that is connected directly to the hospital by a bridge. The new hospital will house the highest level of care in South Texas with a Level IV Maternal Fetal Medicine and Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit designations. The hospital was created with evidence-based design principles focusing on family-centered care and is seeking LEED silver certification.
