A renovation of a long vacant grocery store, the Walzem YMCA includes facilities for cardio and weight training, locker rooms, group exercise, and a center for teens. An office suite for YMCA personnel is located on the 2nd floor and accessed via a new stair and elevator. The project also involved the relocation of existing structural columns to allow for the inclusion of a full-size gymnasium with a bamboo sports floor. Young children enjoy the Y-Land multi-level play structure and the zero-entry wading pool. Water aerobic classes are held in the indoor pool and serve the senior population. Incorporating many sustainable features, the project is certified LEED Silver.
