Happy New Year!

Our staff is back from the holidays and Marmon Mok is off to a great year, with several new projects in design: the University of Texas Health Science Center MARC Plaza Medical Office Building, Potranco YMCA/Library adaptive-reuse, and Andrews Air Force Base Exchange.

Holiday Celebration

Marmon Mok staff celebrated the holidays with a luncheon at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, and with a white elephant gift exchange. On behalf of our entire staff, thank you to our clients, teaming partners, consultants and general contractors for making 2014 a tremendous year.

Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Expansion Topping Out Event

The City of San Antonio and the Hunt/Zachry/Populous/Marmon Mok design/build team took time out to celebrate the progress of the 750,000 SF expansion together with City staff, numerous consultants and subcontractors, and hundreds of construction workers on site. Everyone signed a structural beam and cheered as it was lifted into place. Completion is scheduled for August 2016.

Fit Company Challenge

To promote health and wellness, Marmon Mok staff participated in the Fit Company Challenge. Six individual contestants and one relay team competed in a three-course physical challenge and a 5K run. There were 20 companies participating with over 75 participants. Our relay team came in 2nd Place and our firm ranked 4th for the overall Fittest Company; a great victory for our first year. Congratulations to Denise Beneke, Xavier Cantu, Matt Carrell, Greg Houston, Felicia Love, Carlos Lucio, Michelle Montgomery, Jonathan Olvera, Danny Tran and Morgan Williams for a job well done.

NIRSA Recreation Facilities Institute Session

Marmon Mok Partner Greg Houston presented a session to university recreation leaders, “Vision and Program: Develop a Roadmap for Design and Construction”, during the annual facilities conference in Houston focusing on research, planning, design and construction of student recreation and aquatics projects.

TCUF Panel Presentation: “Transformation: A New Building Worth of Top-Tier Status”

Marmon Mok Partner Bill Reeves, together with our joint venture partner Mark Larsen of Kahler Slater and clients Dr. Bill Dodge, Dental School Dean, and Patrick Lew, OFPC Project Manager, presented “Transformation: A New Building Worthy of Top Tier Status,” success factors and lessons learned from the planning, design and construction of the new Center for Oral Health Care and Research at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio.

City of San Antonio Mentor-Protégé Graduation

Marmon Mok and GNA Architecture were partnered for two years in the City of San Antonio Business Empowerment Mentor-Protégé program. Along with City officials, Sally Smith and Mary Bartlett celebrated GNA’s graduation from the protégé program and Marmon Mok’s recognition as a mentor, and we look forward to a long friendship and continued work with owner Gerry Noriega.
